Description

The goal of this day is to bring together those who are interested in studying or discussing the current state of academic research. To that end, we would like to welcome meta-researchers, researchers from other fields, but also people who are not primarily engaged in research like journal editors, science journalists, and scientific policymakers.

The day will consist of plenary talks by Sarah de Rijcke, Ana Marušić, and John Ioannidis, as well as two time slots with parallel sessions. In the parallel sessions people come together to discuss, plan, or work on a specific meta-research project. We invite researchers with a strong focus on meta-research to lead these sessions. The idea is to start with a short introduction by the session leader about the state-of-the-art in a specific meta-research topic. The session leader will then lead a group discussion about how meta-research can resolve pressing issues related to that topic.

Arrival and Finding Your Way Around

The symposium takes place at Tilburg University (Warandelaan 2, 5037 AB, Tilburg). The symposium is centered around the Tilburg University auditorium in the Cobbenhagen (C) building, and the reception area is located just in front of the auditorium. The map below shows the easiest way to arrive at building C from the Tilburg University train station (by walking through building K at the very end).

Code of Conduct

The Meta-Research Day is an event that brings together people who are interested in studying or discussing the current state of academic research. We are committed to provide a harassment-free event for all individ- uals, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Participants are asked to frame discussions as openly and inclusively as possible and to be aware of how language or images may be perceived by others.

Reporting

We have a no-barriers reporting standard. That means you do not need to judge whether what occurred is “bad enough” to be reported. All legal persons may be reported (e.g., individual persons, organizations). We actively encourage reports to our own mishaps or improvement points. If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, or if you believe a harassment problem exists, please report it as soon as possible to any member of the Meta Research Day organizing committee. All reports will remain confidential. If you would like to have a private conversation with someone, please ask any member of the Meta Research Day organizing committee, or e-mail one of the following persons, who both will be available at the event.

Esther Maassen (organization committee, she/her) – e.maassen@uvt.nl
Damiano D’Urso (not affiliated with the organization, he/him) – e.d.durso@uvt.nl

Enforcement

Participants who are asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a par- ticipant engages in harassing behavior, event organizers retain the right to take any actions to keep the event a welcoming environment for all participants. This includes warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund. Event organizers may take action to redress anything designed to, or with the clear impact of, disrupting the event or making the environment hostile for any participants. We expect participants to follow these rules at the event and event-related social activities.
